Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bandung-Belgrade-Havana Conference is rescheduled from October 25-30, 2021 to November 7-14, 2022. By chance, Indonesia is the president of G20 from December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022, and the 17th G20 Summit will take place in Bali on November 15-16, 2022. So, it would be historical for the Bandung Spirit Network of Scholars and Activists of Social Movements that its conference is to take place at the proximity in space and time of the G20 Summit. It would be interesting to observe how Indonesia, initiator of the Bandung Conference in 1955, became president of G20 in 2022. It would also be a great opportunity for conference participants to witness, and to watch, the conjunction of convergent and/or divergent global forces in a certain moment of history.

Online Roundtable:
AFRO-ASIAN STUDIES: PRACTICES AND PERSPECTIVES
May 24, 2022 – 8:00 am (UTC-4)

The 20th century was the century of the first decolonization - political and led by states - in a context marked by the Cold War and a strong advocacy for non-alignment. The Afro-Asian Conference in Bandung, April 1955, bore huge political and symbolic in that context. Subsequently, the 21st century is shaping up to be the century of a second decolonization, no longer in a context of a Cold War and bi-polarity, but of multi-polarity and strategical repositioning of established, as well as emerging game changers from the South. Consequently, this multipolarity is ideal for the redeployment of relations between continents, particularly between Asia and Africa. It builds an exciting challenge for scholars working on Asia and Africa from diverse disciplines. The roundtable brings together some of these specialists who will share their experiences and visions of what Afro-Asian studies should be in the future.
